How to check a KN ticket, in the right order

Most people check a lottery ticket backwards — they scan for their number somewhere on a page and give up. The official sheet is structured, so check it in the order it is structured:

1. Read your own ticket first. Write down the lottery name, the series letter(s) and the draw date exactly as printed. Do this before you open any result page, so you are not unconsciously matching what you hope to see.
2. Open the official source for that exact date. The Kerala State Lotteries directorate publishes at statelottery.kerala.gov.in. Any other page is a copy, and copies can carry typos.
3. Check the full-number tiers. The top tiers are matched on the complete ticket number, series included. A digit-perfect match is required; a “close” number is not a partial win.
4. Check the consolation line. Consolation prizes go to the same number in the other series of the same draw — a detail that catches out people who only compare digits and ignore the series letter.
5. Then the last-four-digit tiers. The lower tiers are usually decided on the final four digits and apply across series. This is where the overwhelming majority of small wins actually appear, so do not skip it.
6. Read the number twice. Once left to right, once right to left. Transposed digits are the single most common self-inflicted checking error.
7. Keep the physical ticket safe. No lamination, no tape over the number, no folding through the digits. The ticket itself is the instrument — a photo of it is not.
